What do you love about Twitter?

I was talking about Twitter in a workshop yesterday, and asked my followers what they loved about Twitter. This was to demonstrate how Twitter worked in real time, but also get a sense of why people use Twitter.

Using Storify, I have amalgamated all the responses.

If you use Twitter, what do you love about it?

All of the above! Twitter is really amazing. I like the way I can have conversations, and surprisingly deep ones at times, with people all over the world. I also love the way that someone totally random can come into those conversations and say exactly the right thing, even though the conversation is, at times, asynchronous. Another real plus of twitter is the ability to 'tune in' to conferences and enjoy people's commentary and perspective on what's happening/being said. I'm looking for ways to incorporate Twitter into teaching. If you hae any ideas, let me know.

All round? Twitter is brilliant.

I like Twitter for all the reasons that people have mentioned. I find a lot of people get concerned about information overload with technologies such as Twitter. But what I love about it, is that you can dip in and out when you feel like it, and know that at any given time, there is someone around to talk to....and something to learn.

Yes lots of the reasons already mentioned I agree with with. Mostly for me it's the fact that I can find up to date news items, connect with folks and discover blogs! I now have Twitter friends, and feel like I know them...love it.

Yes, I don't know what it is about Twitter, Sheena, but somehow it makes me feel I know people well. This makes for wonderfully, friendly gatherings when you finally meet face-to-face.

Perfect example last night: @Sweden posted a picture of a child in the playground we used to live next to in Stockholm, which brought back the most wonderful memories of our time there and I now have a new friend that lives just where we used to. At the same time I was tweeting badger-laden Shakespeare quotes and reading about formal vs informal learning. Luckily I'm a mum so can deal with multitasking!
